With the explosive growth in demand for smart wearables, in-vehicle electronics, and medical devices, Chinese LCD manufacturers have gained a competitive edge in the global market thanks to their rapid response capabilities in delivering customized LCD modules. According to data from the first quarter of 2025, China’s exports of small- and medium-sized LCD panels increased by 17% year over year, with customized products accounting for more than 35% of the growth—marking a strategic shift in the industry from standardized production toward scenario‑specific customization.

Customization-driven competition in the consumer electronics sector is equally fierce. Display manufacturer Shenzhen Chaoxu Optoelectronics has developed a 6.2-inch, high-refresh-rate Mini LED module tailored for gaming handhelds, reducing response time to 1 ms and cutting costs by 40% compared with similar OLED solutions, thereby successfully securing a place in Nintendo’s supply chain. Meanwhile, Chinese LCD display manufacturers are pursuing even more aggressive innovations in the smart‑home space; for instance, Skyworth, in collaboration with Xinyun Display Control, has launched an 8‑inch transparent display module that achieves 70% light transmittance through localized dimming technology, now deployed as the interactive panel on high‑end smart refrigerators.
From technology adoption to standards-setting, the rise of China’s display industry is becoming increasingly evident. Leveraging the differentiated advantages of customized LCD modules, Chinese companies have not only captured 31% of the global small- and medium-sized display market but have also forged a closed-loop “display + AIoT” ecosystem through cross‑scenario integration of technologies such as Mini LED and Micro LED. With leading firms like TCL CSOT and BOE continuing to ramp up R&D investment, China is accelerating its transformation from the “world’s factory” to an “innovation hub,” redefining the competitive landscape of the global display industry.
