Speaking of pulse oximeters, they have become another highly sought-after product, following masks, fever reducers, and antigen tests.
The display screens of commonly available pulse oximeters on the market are generally divided into two types: OLED displays and TFT color screens.
0.96-inch OLED yellow‑blue dual‑color display—OLED screens are characterized by their cool‑white backlight and soft, gentle image quality. Unlike traditional LCD technology, OLED displays do not require a backlight; instead, they use an ultra‑thin coating of organic materials on a glass substrate (or a flexible organic substrate). When an electric current passes through, these organic materials emit light. Moreover, OLED displays can be made lighter and thinner, offer wider viewing angles, and significantly reduce power consumption.
In the early days, most pulse oximeters used this type of OLED display, which is relatively expensive but delivers excellent visual performance. However, these OLED displays typically offer a rather limited color palette; mainstream pulse oximeter brands on the market generally employ either dark blue text against a light background or white text on a dark background.
0.96-inch TFT color display—TFT LCDs are characterized by their lower cost compared to OLED displays, stable supply, and a wide range of color options. Due to their widespread use in smart wearables, their unit price remains relatively low. The reason 0.96-inch TFT LCDs are so extensively adopted is primarily because the smart‑wearable market is dominated by 0.96‑inch TFT panels, and these devices often integrate blood‑oxygen and heart‑rate monitoring functions. Furthermore, from a technical standpoint, the interfaces of OLED and TFT panels are quite similar, with only minor design changes, resulting in modest upgrade costs. This has paved the way for the adoption of TFT technology in pulse oximeters.
